Parent Leadership
Since 1969, Parents Anonymous® has been supporting, encouraging, and upholding generations of parent leaders as a result of attending Evidence-Based Parents Anonymous®. In 1993, the first National Parent Leadership Team® (NPLT) and in 1996 the first California Parent Leadership Team® (CPLT) was created with the mission each respectively to improve and change programs and policies to help diverse Parents, Children & Youth to create positive outcomes for families. Composed of a diverse group of tenacious mothers, fathers and grandparents with lived expertise who work diligently to change Federal and California policy to support the resiliency and future of all families across America. Each Parent Leader serves on numerous national, federal, state, county and local Commissions, Advisory Boards, Task Forces in Shared Leadership® to enhance the social, emotional, community and spiritual well-being of all families across this nation.
National Parent Leadership Team®
The National Parent Leadership Team® works in Shared Leadership® to advocate for new federal public policies and services that strengthen and support families with measurable positive outcomes. The National Parent Leadership Team® advocates with Parents Anonymous® to draft and encourage the passage of federal laws that address justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The lived expertise of diverse parents is vital to policy making and expanding the accessibility of Evidence-Based Parents Anonymous® and the National Parent Helpline® through the Family First Prevention Services Act and other comprehensive federal programs and policies. The National Parent Leadership Team® advocates for the sustainability and expansion of vital emotional support provided on the National Parent Helpline® and through nationwide Weekly Parents Anonymous® Groups utilizing state, federal, and private foundation support.
California Parent Leadership Team®
The California Parent Leadership Team® operates in meaningful Shared Leadership®, parent leaders with lived expertise work at the state and local levels to affect change in any system or program addressing family issues including child welfare, behavioral health, early childhood and care, education, substance abuse, juvenile and adult justice, courts, Adverse childhood experiences, health care, domestic violence and developmental disabilities. The California Parent Leadership Team® advocates for the sustainability and expansion of vital emotional support provided on the California Parent & Youth Helpline and through Weekly Parents Anonymous® Groups utilizing state, federal, and private foundation support.
National Parent Leadership Month® (February)
Through the advocacy efforts of parent leaders and Parents Anonymous®, National Parent Leadership Month® was established in 2000 to honor and celebrate Parents during the month of February each year. We believe the future depends on Parents. Many local, state, and national organizations partner with Parents Anonymous® to honor and publicize the achievements of diverse parents nationwide.
