Working hours: Full-Time, in-person. Monday – Friday, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.

Position Overview:

The Community Mental Health Specialist facilitates evidence-based support groups for children and youth, coordinates care and referrals to mental health and social services, and assists with crisis intervention. This role involves outreach, community engagement, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with DMH and Parents Anonymous® standards.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Participate in Shared Leadership to develop and implement mental health promotional activities to recruit Parents, Children, and Youth Program Participants for Evidenced-Based Parents Anonymous Programs.
  • Facilitate Weekly Evidence-Based Parents Anonymous® Children and Youth Groups ensuring Model Fidelity including ordering supplies for structured activities and staffing appropriate ratio of UMHPs for each age group.
  • Coordination of care for Parents, Children, and Youth between providers in the mental health system and related social service systems as assigned by Clinician.
  • Identify appropriate referrals and linkages to ancillary services including housing, substance use, medical, educational, vocational, recreational, and cultural for program participants.
  • Assist with crisis intervention under the direction of the Clinician or Head of Service.
  • Assist with linkages and coordination of services resulting from a Child and Family Team (CFT) meeting.
  • Complete 80 hours of Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training and pass the state certification exam within 90 days of hire and meet all continuing educational requirements annually.
  • Identify as a Peer and use your Peer Story for outreach, community engagement and linkages, and support services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, including contact logs, progress notes, and outcome measures, adhering to DMH guidelines and Parents Anonymous® standards.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology or related field or High School Diploma with equivalent professional Experience with Parents, Children, and Youth.
  • MUST VERIFY THAT YOU ARE A PEER (WITH LIVED EXPERIENCE): A Peer is an individual who is self-identified as having lived experience with the process of recovery from mental illness, substance use disorder, or both, either as a consumer of these services or as the parent or family member of the consumer..
  • Must have some experience working directly with diverse Parents, Children & Youth up to 25.
  • Must embrace and reflect the Mission, Vision, and Principles of Parents Anonymous® Inc.
  • Must embrace the philosophy and theory of change of Parent Anonymous® including mutual support, parent leadership, shared leadership®, and personal growth and change.
  • Must have well-developed computer skills.
  • Must be able to work at community outreach events on weekends as needed.
  • Must be culturally responsive, responsible, and seek assistance from supervisor when work challenges arise.
  • Must have a smartphone.
  • Must have a working vehicle and a valid driver’s license or have the ability to go to work and outreach in the surrounding area.
  • Willing to attend 80 hours of training and pass the Medi-Cal Certification of Peer Support Specialists.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 – $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
